Have these ready before you call
None of these needs to be exact. Rough answers move a job forward much further than precise ones given an hour later.
- What the tree is doing, and what it is touching right now.
- Whether anyone is inside or under that part of the building.
- Whether any power, phone or cable line is involved.
- Roughly how tall the tree is against the building beside it.
- How wide the narrowest gate or gap on the route is, and where a truck could stand.
If the situation is urgent
Move people, pets and vehicles out from under the canopy and away from the direction of lean, and close the route off rather than relying on anyone to remember to avoid it. Do not cut into anything holding weight, and do not try to lift a tree off a fence, a vehicle or a roof — the object it is resting on is part of what is holding it up. Then call and describe it.
Never approach, move or work near a downed or sagging power line, and do not assume a line is inactive. Keep people, pets and vehicles well clear, and report the line to your electric utility or emergency services before anyone goes near the area.
What happens after the call
Urgent situations are triaged on the call and assessed on arrival. Planned work is looked at on site, because condition and access cannot be judged remotely. Either way you will know what is being done, what happens to the stump, what happens to the debris and what the property looks like at the end before anyone starts cutting.
